Power of Attorney When Re-registering a Vehicle

In practice, the re-registration of a vehicle is often handled by only one of the contracting parties, usually the buyer. In order to be able to act also on behalf of the seller, it is necessary to present a power of attorney with an officially verified signature of the principal. Without a properly granted power of attorney, the transfer of ownership in the vehicle register cannot be successfully completed.

Other Documents Needed for Re-registration

When you visit the vehicle register, do not forget the other documents necessary to carry out the transfer. Missing documentation may needlessly prolong the whole process. Take the following documents with you to the authority:

  • A joint application by the current and new owner (or operator, if different from the owner).
  • A valid proof of identity in the original (identity card or passport).
  • The vehicle registration certificate (the so-called small technical certificate).
  • The vehicle technical certificate (the so-called large technical certificate), if one was issued and you still have it physically available.
  • Proof of acquisition of ownership (e.g. a purchase contract, a probate decision) – this must be presented in the event of a transfer of ownership.

What you no longer need to bring?

  • Green card: You do not need to present it physically. The registration authority will itself verify electronically through the Czech Insurers' Bureau that you have arranged compulsory third-party liability insurance.
  • Roadworthiness test report: The validity of the roadworthiness test will also be checked by the authority itself from the online system when processing the application.
